- What is a buyer's mandate?
- A buyer's mandate is a written authorisation from a named buyer confirming that an appointed representative may communicate and negotiate on their behalf. It is not the same as a broker. A mandate names a real principal and any purchase remains subject to that principal's final approval, which is exactly what a broker working on spec cannot produce. We ask for one whenever someone approaches us on another party's behalf.
- What is a letter of intent when buying a car?
- A letter of intent, or LOI, is a dated and signed document issued by the buyer setting out the car they want and the terms they would buy on: vehicle and variant, year range, required specification, maximum mileage, budget and currency, completion timeframe and delivery destination. It is not a binding commitment to buy and it is not a payment. It exists so that a seller is approached by a documented buyer rather than an unverified enquiry, which is the only basis on which most private owners will engage at all.
- What is an off-market car?
- A car that is not advertised anywhere and is not for sale in any public sense. The owner has not listed it, and in many cases has not decided to sell until a credible buyer is put in front of them. Reaching one depends entirely on holding the relationship with the owner or their representative, which is why off-market cars move through direct channels rather than marketplaces.
- Why are the cars on the site shown under covers?
- Because a photograph of the actual car, next to a year and a country, identifies it. Vehicles listed as available are not owned or held by us. Available means the owner has confirmed they would sell and we hold the relationship to bring a documented buyer to them.
- What does non-circumvention mean here?
- Where it applies, you agree not to approach a seller or channel we brought you to, or their representatives, outside this process. It protects the relationships that make these cars reachable at all. Without it there is no reason for an owner to let us bring anyone.
- Do you circulate cars looking for buyers?
- No. We take documented buyer requirements and source the right car through our direct relationships. A car shopped around the market loses the discretion that made a private sale possible in the first place, which is why owners stop returning the calls of anyone who does it.
- How long does it take?
- It depends entirely on how specific the requirement is and how many cars exist. A well-defined brief on a car with a reasonable population can move quickly. A particular specification of a car built in single figures may not happen at all, and we will say so rather than keep you waiting.
- Can I stay anonymous?
- Further than most people expect. The letter of intent can be issued in your appointed representative's name or their company's rather than yours, provided it comes with proof of mandate confirming they act for a real buyer and that any purchase is subject to your final approval. Your own details are not shared with any seller until you have confirmed interest in a specific car. Beyond that point a seller agreeing to a private sale will generally want to know who is buying.
